Une trouvaille inattendue à la Librairie Occitania, rue du Taur à Toulouse : la traduction en nynorn du Petit Prince d'Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Vous me direz, oui, et alors ? Eh bien, mine de rien, nous avons ici un livre événement à double titre : d'une part ce nynorn (traduire "nouveau-norrois") est une langue reconstruite à partir d'éléments épars du norn, langue scandinave parlée dans les îles Shetland et Orkney (norrois : Hjaltland & Orkneyjar) jusqu'en 1850, et, d'autre part, il s'agit ici du tout premier livre publié dans cette langue quasi hypothétique.

Les rares scandinavisants français reconnaîtront sans peine l'étroite parenté du nynorn avec le féroïen et l'islandais, les autres y verront peut-être un texte cabalistique et vaguement attrayant...

Thomas Bergersen - Empire Of Angels

 

François d'Orléans, prince de Joinville (1818-1900)

 

 

Généralement inconnu du grand public, François d'Orléans, prince de Joinville, est le sixième des huit enfants du roi Louis-Philippe et de la reine Marie-Amélie, et le troisième de leurs cinq garçons.

Né quelques années à peine après la défaite de Waterloo, c'est lui qui fut chargé en 1840 de ramener de Sainte-Hélène le corps de Napoléon à bord de la Belle Poule.

Entré dans la Marine à l'âge de seize ans, François d'Orléans fut nommé contre-amiral le 31 juillet 1843, ès qualités, serait-on tenté de dire, mais le prince de Joinville avait déjà une belle carrière à la mer derrière lui à cette époque-là et ses idées progressistes contribuèrent puissamment à faire passer la Marine française de l'âge de la voile à l'ère de la vapeur.

La révolution de février 1848 vint mettre un terme définitif à la monarchie de Juillet de Louis-Philippe et s'ensuivirent pour le prince de Joinville vingt-deux années d'exil coupées par un séjour aux Etats-Unis pendant la guerre de Sécession.

Rentré clandestinement en France en 1870, à la faveur de la chute du régime de Napoléon III, il finit par retrouver une citoyenneté dont il avait été déchu et fut élu député de la Haute-Marne.

 

 

Grand témoin du XIXe siècle français, François d'Orléans fit également preuve d'une indubitable fibre artistique avec à la fois des talents d'écrivain et d'illustrateur.

Cet homme du monde fréquenta assidûment les scientifiques et artistes de son temps, parfois très intimement, d'ailleurs, puisqu'on lui connut plusieurs maîtresses, dont Madeleine Brohan, nommée 273e sociétaire de la Comédie-Française en 1850 et décédée la même année que lui, en 1900.

 

J'ai la chance de posséder quelques objets liés à ce personnage haut en couleurs : trois livres passés  entre ses mains à l'occasion de dédicaces et deux lettres autographes.

 

 

Un simple De la part de l'auteur sur cet exemplaire anonyme d'Etudes sur la Marine paru à Paris en 1859, car il y avait, à cette époque, un interdit placé par Napoléon III sur tout ce qui émanait des Orléans.

 

 

 Ce n'est que plus tard que le propriétaire originel de cet ouvrage rendit un vibrant hommage au prince de Joinville et à sa lignée...

 

 

Même anonymat sur un autre exemplaire du même ouvrage, dédicacé néanmoins à Max Radiguet.

 

Un livre auquel je tiens tout particulièrement, puisqu'il raconte à lui seul et en toute discrétion une histoire d'amour : l'exemplaire de Vieux Souvenirs, 1818-1848 qui appartenait à l'une de ses maîtresses, Madeleine Brohan, et qu'elle légua plus tard à sa nièce, Marie Samary, qui s'illustra elle aussi dans le Paris des artistes. Ironie de l'Histoire, Madeleine Brohan eut également les faveurs de Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, futur Napoléon III et ennemi juré des Orléans : faut-il voir dans l'acharnement que mit Napoléon III à tenir le Prince de Joinville et sa famille éloignés de leur patrie une plaie d'amour mal cicatrisée ?

 

 Pour finir, une lettre autographe du prince de Joinville écrite lors de l'expédition du Maroc, en 1844 :

Or donc voici ce que je voulais dire. Envoyez le Gassendi faire son charbon ici ; permettez à mon état-major de communiquer par lui avec Gibraltar : nous aurons vers 3h soit le Rubis, soit le Grégeois pour ramener les curieux.

Faites ramener mon le canot du Pluton par le Gassendi et envoyez-moi Nau avec papier et plumes. Le Grégeois partira ce soir pour France, permettant d'écrire.
